Introduction

Offside Legal is thrilled to announce that it is going full throttle into a Sports Law Bootcamp in collaboration with the Centre for Sports Law and Policy (CSLP), NUJS — a two-day, immersive online program scheduled for 22–23 August 2026. This Sports Law Bootcamp has been designed for law students, young professionals, and sports enthusiasts who want to move beyond textbook definitions and actually understand how sports law operates in the real world, from stadiums to courtrooms.

Why a Sports Law Bootcamp, and Why Now

Sports law in India is no longer a niche curiosity tucked away in elective courses — it is a fast-evolving field shaped by athlete rights disputes, federation governance battles, doping regulations, broadcasting contracts, and the commercial explosion around leagues like the IPL and ISL. Yet structured, practice-oriented learning in this space remains hard to find. That gap is exactly what this Sports Law Bootcamp aims to fill. By bringing together Offside Legal’s on-ground content expertise with CSLP, NUJS’s academic rigour, the bootcamp offers a rare blend of theory and practice that most classroom settings simply cannot replicate.

What to Expect from the Sports Law Bootcamp

Spread across two intensive days, the Sports Law Bootcamp will cover the core pillars of the discipline:

  • Sports Governance — how National Sports Federations, the IOA, and international bodies like FIFA and the IOC regulate the game, and how the National Sports Governance Act, 2025 is reshaping accountability in India.
  • Athlete Rights and Disputes — selection disputes, doping regulations, disciplinary proceedings, and the role of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
  • Commercial and Contractual Frameworks — player contracts, sponsorship deals, image rights, and broadcasting agreements that keep the sports economy running.
  • Dispute Resolution in Sport — arbitration mechanisms, domestic litigation trends, and how Indian courts have approached sports-related matters in recent years.

Each module will be led by practitioners and academics with hands-on experience, ensuring that every session of the Sports Law Bootcamp translates legal theory into practical, applicable insight. Expect case studies, interactive discussions, and real scenarios drawn from recent sports law developments — not just static slides.

Who Should Attend

This Sports Law Bootcamp is built for:

  • Law students curious about a career in sports law who want more than a one-off guest lecture
  • Young advocates and legal professionals looking to specialize in a growing practice area
  • Sports management and policy enthusiasts who want to understand the legal scaffolding behind the games they follow
  • Anyone who has ever wondered how a transfer dispute, doping ban, or governance scandal actually plays out legally

No prior background in sports law is required — the bootcamp is structured to take participants from foundational concepts to more nuanced discussions over the two days, making it accessible whether you’re just starting out or already have some exposure to the field.

Why This Collaboration Matters

Offside Legal has spent years building a platform dedicated to sports law education through its Instagram and LinkedIn content, its monthly Offside Bulletin, and its Pitch & Precedent webinar series featuring academics and practitioners from institutions across the country. Partnering with CSLP, NUJS for this Sports Law Bootcamp brings that same commitment into a more structured, sustained format. NUJS’s Centre for Sports Law and Policy has been at the forefront of academic engagement with sports governance and policy in India, and this collaboration ensures participants get both the classroom depth of an academic centre and the applied, current-affairs edge that Offside Legal is known for.

The Sports Law Bootcamp will be conducted entirely online over two days — 22 and 23 August 2026, making it accessible to participants regardless of location. This format also means participants can engage directly with speakers and fellow attendees through live Q&A sessions and discussions, without the constraints of a physical venue.

  • Dates: 22–23 August 2026
  • Format: Online
  • Presented by: Offside Legal x CSLP, NUJS
